Fennec foxes are the smallest of all canines. If translating from the Arabic language the word “fanak” means fox. Actually, the appropriate name for these small mammals is the “desert fox”, but some people would call the fennec related to bat-eared foxes, because of its large ears, weak dentition and round pupils, and would keep it in its own genus.
